You only need basic DIY knowledge to install your Herschel Select XL panels.
Please note that Herschel Select XL panels are not supplied with a plug - you will need to purchase this separately and attach it to the cable if you want your heater to have a plug-in fitting. When wall-mounting your panels, the wall bracket for the Select XL functions as a template for you to drill the necessary holes into the wall. After you have done this, simply screw this bracket to the wall and you’re ready to hang your new panel. Herschel’s new Easyfix design makes fitting your panels easy. Four mounting fixings are located on the rear of your panel – these slot into place onto the mounting bracket and can be secured by moving your panel to the right, down, and then to the right again.
For a discreet fitting with all wires and sockets hidden, you may prefer to have the panels hardwired by a qualified electrician. This is not a DIY job.
Herschel Select XL panels are also suitable for use in bathrooms, provided they are hardwired by a professional electrician in an appropriate location. The panels are IP44 rated, which means they are protected against splashing water. Always defer to the manufacturer’s guidelines about the bathroom suitability of any product.
We always recommend installing your panels with thermostatic controls. A thermostat will control the heat output of your panel, ensuring your rooms stay at the right temperature without wasting energy. A thermostat with programming functionality will also allow you to schedule your heating, helping you save energy by heating only occupied rooms. The Herschel iQ system is a great choice for infrared panels, giving you thermostat control from one central location. Herschel iQ receivers must be hardwired, however alternative plug-in controllers are available.
We always advise consulting a qualified electrician before having multiple radiators or heaters connected to avoid overloading the ring main of your property. If you are at all unsure about the scale of your project, a professional will be able to provide in-depth guidance.
Herschel Select XL panels are versatile and slimline infrared heaters that combine discreet styling with energy-efficient heating. This 1000w white panel is ideal for heating larger areas like living rooms, kitchens, bedrooms, and bathrooms.
The Select XL collection is Herschel’s affordable infrared panel, manufactured with a high-quality frameless design and minimalist aesthetic. The Select XL range includes five different sizes of panel that are powder-coated in white – ideal for adding instant contemporary style to your home.
This 1000w Select XL panel is intended for wall mounting only. This 1000w panel is designed to produce the equivalent heat and range of the 850w Select XL panel. If you want your panel to be ceiling mounted, the 850w Select XL is best for you. The panels can reach temperatures of 85 – 95 °C, which makes ceiling mounting a safer option for homes with small children and vulnerable adults. With an ultra-slim depth of just 25mm, this white infrared panel is unobtrusive and can be used in both homes and businesses with ease.
With Herschel’s new Easyfix bracket, installing your Select XL is a straightforward DIY task when you attach a plug to the end of the supplied cable. If you’d prefer a wireless finish, or plan on installing your Select XL in a bathroom, you will require a qualified electrician to hardwire the panels.
Herschel Select XL panels do not come with in-built controls. This is to protect the lifespan of the products, which will usually extend for decades, well beyond the 5-year manufacturer’s warranty. Rugged and durable, with no moving parts, your Herschel Select XL panels should outlive any digital components. It’s for this reason that we sell thermostats, timers and programmers separately. Your controllers wire in separately, and you can replace them as many times as you want without damaging the panels. This also gives you the freedom to choose exactly how you want to control your panels – collectively or individually, automatically or manually, remotely or directly.
We always recommend installing your panels with a programmable thermostat. Thermostats monitor and maintain temperatures, whilst programmers allow you to set each panel to a heating schedule with different temperatures at different times of the day. This will drastically reduce your energy usage, and ensures your rooms are comfortable whenever you need them. Infrared panels with thermostatic controls can be up to 60% more efficient than traditional convection heating systems.
When purchased with the iQ WiFi Hub, Herschel infrared panels can be remotely controlled from a compatible smart device, enabling you to alter your heating on the bus, on the train, or anywhere providing you have an internet connection. The iQ Hub connects directly to your home router and receives instructions from a compatible smart device via WiFi.
Infrared panels give off most of their heat as far infrared radiation. This is a gentle, natural form of heat which travels at a similar wavelength to the heat given off by our bodies. Far infrared feels gentle but is easily absorbed by our bodies, making it one of the most efficient ways to heat homes and offices. Unlike outdoor infrared products which give off visible light and a more intense form of infrared heat, far infrared remains comfortable for hours on end – a luxurious heating solution that’s ideal for all your main living spaces. Other uses for far infrared include spas, yoga studios and incubators for babies.
Infrared heating is growing in popularity all the time as home and business owners recognise the unique benefits and unparalleled energy efficiency offered by these versatile panels. Radiant heat warms people, objects and surfaces directly, minimising the heat loss through draughts and the circulation of air. Radiant heat allows you to zone your heating, and it can also reduce damp and prevent the circulation of dust – the ideal heating solution for allergy sufferers. The panels are durable, require no maintenance and are the natural choice to pair with solar panels for 100% carbon free heating.
