The Best In Bathroom Décor: How To Accessorise A Bathroom

The humble bathroom has gone through a considerable reinvention over the last few decades. Since the mid-nineties brought us a seemingly infinite number of home renovation programmes, we’ve begun to see bathrooms as less of an embarrassment and more of a space where we can begin to spread out artistic wings.

So whilst more and more of us are tearing out our old bathrooms and bringing in the latest roll top baths and inconceivably shaped sinks, the question begins to be: how do I accessorise my bathroom? Well, we’ve decided to pull together a few of our favourite design tricks for 2014/15 to answer that very question.

Plants

Plants make a superb addition to any bathroom. Not only do they absorb unseemly smells, but they also receive precious water from the humid atmosphere of a shower room. Not all plants are perfect for the bathroom though, as you’ll need flora which enjoys low light situations and humid environments. You’ll need to select your plants together, but as a general guide try looking out for one of these plants: Orchid, Bamboo, Pothos, Cast Iron Plant, Philodendron, Boston Fern, ZZ Plant or Peace Lily. Each of these plants display their own unique beauty, and depending on the size of your bathroom could make a stunning addition to your room.

Towel Rails

For decades we hurriedly folded our towels and put them back in the airing cupboard, but the new season demands that we take a fresh look at our towels and display them prominently. Stacking them on a nice bit of furniture is one option, but the more beautiful option is that of buying a designer towel rail. Modern towel rails are fantastically engineered and often very beautiful affairs which look brilliant with or without towels on them. Whilst most bathrooms stick to organic, curved lines, the opportunity to add a little industrial design should be grabbed with both hands, as it gives a lot of structure to a room that might not have it.

Mirrors

We all know mirrors make a room look larger, but they can also bring a flagging old bathroom back to life. For a long time framed mirrors were in fashion, but with flaking paint and swelling wood, the frameless mirror has come swinging back in to vogue. Whilst round mirrors are always a safe choice, consider a stark square mirror, or even a rectangle to give your mirror antics a cinematic feel.

Mason Jars

Having a bathroom full of plastic bottles is one of the least attractive things you can present to a guest, so why not try your hand a little craft? Mason jars are a fantastic way to turn commodity items like shampoo and conditioner into a luxurious looking addition to your bathroom. Alternatively, put some candles in them and watch as the light bounces through the glass and into the rest of your bathroom. Mason jars are a superb addition to the homeowner looking to add a little unique chic to their bathroom.
