Electric Radiators Direct

Welcome to Electric Radiators Direct, suppliers of energy efficient electric radiators and towel rails. We champion electric heating as the heating solution of the future because it is carbon free, ideal for use with sustainable energy and perfectly adapted to take advantage of SMART electronic technology. Once upon a time, electric heating was limited to rudimentary storage heaters designed to save money by heating up overnight using cheap rate electricity and releasing heat during the day. Inefficient, bulky, and difficult to control, storage heaters are rarely popular in homes today. However, not all homeowners realise that electric heating has evolved in recent decades, and now electric radiators offer an easy-install, maintenance free heating option with running costs to rival gas central heating.

Electric radiators are a fantastic forward-looking heating solution because they run equally well whether your electricity is generated by burning fossil fuels or by harnessing sustainable resources. As fossil fuels become scarcer and renewable energy increasingly dominates the energy sector, electric radiators provide an adaptable heating option than keeps up with the changing times.

The company was founded in 2013 to meet the rising demand for energy efficient electric radiators at affordable prices. Since then we have been committed to making comfortable heating with a low carbon footprint an affordable option for all households and businesses, whatever the budget.

When you shop at Electric Radiators Direct you will find a comprehensive range of products with something for every property, design scheme and budget. Our website is packed full of useful information, and, if you’re still unsure, our friendly team of heating advisors are only a phone call away. 1. Do vertical radiators work the same as horizontal radiators?

    1. Vertical radiators are just as effective as horizontal radiators when in operation, so all you need to do is choose a radiator with an output appropriate for your room size. Radiators heat mainly through convection, so provided their wattage can comfortably heat all of the air within a given space, their shape is largely irrelevant.

Some people encounter problems with vertical radiators when they are installed as part of a central heating system. This is because vertical radiators need hot water from the pipes to be channelled upwards, which can cause issues if installed incorrectly. The VeeSmart doesn’t have this problem – it’s designed to work independently and isn’t reliant on a maze of pipework to supply it with a source of heat. Its electric heating element means that you avoid the hassle of bleeding and balancing your radiators, as well as the worry of having to ensure your boiler can cope with any additional load.

Both vertical and horizontal radiators come with their own benefits, so your choice should be based upon how you tend to use your room space and your radiators. Vertical radiators make the better choice if you have a room with limited wall space or an awkward layout that makes it difficult to accommodate a horizontal model. They can be particularly useful in kitchens that often have much of the available space taken up with worktops and cupboards. Another main benefit of vertical radiators is that they’re not easily blocked by furniture so there’s less risk of their heat being leeched away by your sofa or armchair. Practicality aside, they’re also very visually striking and can make an attractive addition to your room space – some users choose vertical radiators for this reason alone!

Horizontal radiators make good use of the ‘dead space’ below windows, so in this way, they’re just as space-saving and effective. They’re also the better choice if you like to hang towels or clothes over your radiator to dry.

  2. Is the Ecostrad VeeSmart programmable?

    1. The VeeSmart features a sophisticated thermal element with integrated Bluetooth functionality, allowing you to programme each radiator via your smartphone or tablet. By downloading the BlueLine heating app, you can pair any number of VeeSmart radiators to your mobile device and create a bespoke 24/7 heating schedule for every area of your home.

As every room in your home is used differently, you can save a lot more energy by creating schedules depending on how you use the space, rather than trying to heat every area of your house to the same level simultaneously.

The BlueLine heating app can be downloaded for free and is compatible with Android 4.4 and iOS 6 devices (or newer).

  3. Can I control the VeeSmart via Wi-Fi?

    1. The VeeSmart’s KTX 4 Blue heating element uses a Bluetooth signal only, which means that you cannot use the heating app to control the radiator via the internet. Bluetooth signals are short-range and are not the same as Wi-Fi. This means that your mobile device will need to be in relatively close proximity to the heaters in order to communicate any updates to your programmed heating schedule.

You can still use the heating app to make changes to your heating schedule while you are outside of the range of the Bluetooth signal, however, the changes will only take effect once you are back within the receiving range of the KTX 4 heating element.

  4. How do you install the VeeSmart?

    1. The VeeSmart radiator does not come with a fitted plug because it must be hardwired to the mains by a professional electrician. Installation of these radiators is not a DIY job because the heating element is not attached to the radiator body – additional assembly is required by a competent installer.

Though you will need the services of a qualified professional, installation of the VeeSmart is a fairly quick and simple task, and appreciably less expensive than integrating it into an existing central heating system. Please be aware that many of our VeeSmart radiators can be heavy as they arrive pre-filled with the thermal oil element and because of this we highly recommend having another person assist with installation. It will not be a one-man job in most instances.

VeeSmart radiators are suitable for use in bathrooms, however, the manufacturer recommends fitting them at least 1m away from any source of water to prevent the surface from corroding.

  5. Can I dry clothes or towels on a vertical Ecostrad VeeSmart?

    1. As you can imagine, vertical towel rails do not lend themselves well to drying clothes and towels unless you enjoy using them as an improvised ring-toss game. However, it is possible to use vertical radiators as a towel rail with the addition of a relatively cheap accessory. Steel vertical radiators with a flat front, such as our vertical VeeSmart, are compatible with magnetic towel rails that can be quickly and easily placed onto the front of the radiator with no complex installation. Please note, we do not stock these accessories, although they are readily available elsewhere.

If you do decide to hang clothes on your vertical VeeSmart electric radiator, please ensure you adhere to the following information:

Some fabrics, such as polyester, cannot withstand high temperatures and should not be dried on radiators. Drying unsuitable fabrics on radiators can cause damage to the clothes and the surface of the radiator. Do not hang fabrics with running dyes or fabrics soaked in chemicals on the VeeSmart – these can cause permanent damage to the finish of the radiator. The warranty for the VeeSmart does not cover damage caused by failure to adhere to these rules or by any damage caused through use of any 3rd party accessories with the heater.

It’s important to note that not all electric radiators are suitable for drying clothes on! The Ecostrad VeeSmart is in the small minority where this can be done safely – another reason why they’re so convenient. The reason you can hang clothes on the VeeSmart is because they have fully enclosed bodies and an unobstructed thermostat at the base of the heater. This is not the case for most electric radiators. Always adhere to the manufacturer’s guidelines before drying clothes on any electric heater to avoid a serious fire hazard.

  6. Who are Ecostrad?

    1. Ecostrad are a heating manufacturer that design products with an emphasis on usability and control. They’ve drawn upon years of experience to provide customers with high quality, affordable heating solutions for every area of the home, no matter whether it’s an open-plan living room or a small guest bathroom. From designer to low-cost ranges, Ecostrad products are available for every household and budget.

  7. How does the Ecostrad VeeSmart work?

    1. All Ecostrad VeeSmart radiators use thermal oil elements to provide a uniform spread of warmth throughout the heater and the room itself. These radiators use an electric heating element inserted into the base of the radiator to warm the thermal oil and comfortably heat the surrounding area.

The Terma KTX 4 Blue heating element stands apart from other alternatives on the market as it includes its own thermostat and offers 24/7 Bluetooth control over your VeeSmart radiators. This means that every VeeSmart can be controlled individually and isn’t reliant on incorporation into a larger system as with a traditional central heating radiator. When the heating element draws power from the mains, the VeeSmart radiator will warm up your room with an effective and thoroughgoing combination of convection and radiation.

  8. Are vertical radiators as good as horizontal radiators?

    1. Vertical radiators are an excellent room heating solution, but as they’re a relatively new offering on the heating market, many customers are unsure whether they will heat as well as their horizontal counterparts. As all radiators mainly heat by warming the air within a room space, their shape does not play a large part in their effectiveness. As long as you choose a model with a wattage suitable for your space, it won’t matter whether you choose a vertical or a horizontal radiator.

The only issues that tend to arise from fitting vertical radiators is when they are installed as part of a central heating system. Vertical radiators require the water from the pipes to be channelled upwards which presents a unique set of issues. Insufficient system pressure and incorrect installation are common causes of vertical radiators not working properly within a central heating system. However, as VeeSmart radiators are sealed units with their own integrated controls, these are issues you can conveniently avoid!

Whether you decide to opt for a horizontal or vertical radiator should depend on how you prefer to use and position your radiators. Vertical radiators may be the best choice if you have limited wall space to work with, or if your room has an awkward shape or layout. As they’re taller than most furnishings, they’re also hard to block – a great solution if your room layout is prohibitive. Last but not least, vertical radiators look outstanding in any room on a purely aesthetic basis. Their minimalist, towering appearance is enjoyed by many looking to provide their interiors with a unique contemporary aesthetic.

Horizontal radiators are still a fantastic space-saving alternative for rooms where you may have space beneath your windows. In most instances, they will fit snugly into these gaps, freeing up the rest of your room for furniture and storage solutions. You may also want to opt for horizontal radiators for the practical reason that they’re much easier to air your clothes on!

  9. Is the Ecostrad VeeSmart programmable?

    1. Our Ecostrad VeeSmart electric radiators are designer models in more ways than one: each unit comes with an intelligent Bluetooth enabled heating element, allowing you to create bespoke 24/7 heating schedules for every area of your home. Simply download the free BlueLine heating app and pair the elements to your mobile device to start tailoring your heating around your lifestyle.

In every home, there are primary areas that get used daily for long periods, and secondary areas that may only be used infrequently. The VeeSmart allows you to zone your heating on a room-by-room basis as each heating element can be programmed separately, so you use less energy heating infrequently used rooms and ensure that your main spaces are always comfortably warm at the right time.

The BlueLine heating app works with Android 4.4 and iOS 6 devices – older software versions may not be compatible.

  10. Can I control the VeeSmart via Wi-Fi?

    1. The Blueline heating app does not use an internet Wi-Fi signal to communicate any programming changes to your electric radiators – it uses Bluetooth only. Bluetooth signals are short-range and require your mobile device to be within relatively close proximity to your heaters in order for any changes to be committed.

While you’re away from home, you can still use the app to fine-tune your heating schedules to your heart’s content; however, these changes will only take effect once you enter the range of the VeeSmart’s Bluetooth signal.
